THE LEARNING LAB:
TESTS
In 2018, the Ministry of Education made a number of watershed announcements regarding exams.
First they announced that they were abolishing streaming. Then, that they were getting rid of PSLE aggregate scores. Then they announced that Primary 1 and 2 students would no longer have to sit for any exams.
To justify their worth, many tuition centres played up the importance of exams (many even offered in-house exams to fill the void).
But The Learning Lab went in the opposite direction. We took the opportunity to remind parents that there are far bigger tests in life.
Tests of not just what our children have learnt, but who they have become.
